Promoting Positive Change

The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship & Technology Committee has been supporting high school students of Oroville, CA for 35 years. Each year the committee hosts a Dr. MLK Jr. Pancake Breakfast at the South Side Community Center in Oroville in celebration of the MLK holiday.

At the event, 8-10 college bound students are awarded with the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Service Award. Recipients are awarded a $500 scholarship as well as a new laptop. The committee prioritizes supporting an underserved community where scholarships and technology are scarce. In this challenging environment, young people face numerous hardships that hinder their academic success. It is the goal of the committee to ease these hardships and assist with students having the tools

The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship Committee is committed to providing support to Black Student Union (BSU) members, focusing on cultural advocacy and equity, academic success, and leadership development to prepare them for higher education.

Become a MLK Scholar

We aim to reward seniors of OUHSD who provide community service and support to others with a $500 scholarship and a new laptop for college.
